Kitten cupcakes!

 For my friend Kasey's birthday, I made him kitten cupcakes! He and his girlfriend love their two kittens so much I created these cupcakes based on their babies.

The orange cat represents their orange tabby "Oliver B. Kitten". The grey cat represents their grey shorthair "Sadie the Lady".

Decorations:
"fish": melted chocolate piped into shape
"nose": pink runts heart
"cheeks": Mentos
"tongue": red starburst, quartered and molded
"eyes": green mini m&m's
"eyebrows": black licorice lace

The cupcakes clearly don't do Oliver (left) and Sadie (right) justice :) They are such cute kittens!

Moose cupcakes!

For Mal's 21st birthday, I made her moose cupcakes! I'm pretty sure I found this idea for a google.com search.

I made some minor changes and didn't bother with the "ears". There was no way they would stay on during travel, so I skipped that step. To me the antlers pointing down, just don't look right, so I had them point up. Both option look cute, and the overall moose effect is obvious :)

GO MOOOOOSE!

Decorations:
"head": nutter butter cookie dipped in chocolate
"antlers": half a mini pretzel
"eyes": mini m&m's
"mouth": red icing piped
"nose": white icing piped

Here is my inspiration for the cupcakes :)

Wilton Cake Decorating: Level 1

 My coworker and I took the Level 1 Wilton cake decorating class together in May. We had the class on Thursday night, and then took our creations into the office for a "decoration competition". Here were some of our creations from 2 of the weeks we went.

This was my "rosette" cake.

My coworkers "rosette" cake. So much better than mine :)
I think she won this round.

This was my "transfer" design, it turned out well...

... but it didn't survive the ride home from class :(
Apparently Marshmallow Fluff is NOT a good filling for a 2 layer cake!!

This is my coworkers "transfer" design cake. Again, I think she won :(

In the end we had fun, but decided what we learned in that class wasn't anything we couldn't teach ourselves. Plus, she works more with fondant, while I work more with candies and gummies to make my decorations :)

Baby shower cupcakes!

I made these baby shower cupcakes for my friend Katarina. She brought them into her work for a surprise shower for a coworker!

Decorations:
"bonnet": mini marshmallows cut up into fourths
"bears": assorted colored gummy bears
"pacifier": red fruit loops and red licorice lace
"clothes pin": melted chocolate piped into pin shape, with mini kiss (add kiss before cool chocolate cools)
"icing/ skin tone": dyed vanilla icing with brown bye to give it the pale skin tone color

Rainbow cupcakes!

After seeing this done on Pinterest.com a few times, I decided to try it myself!

The color in the first few photo doesn't show how vibrant the colors in the cupcakes were. They were really fun and pretty. You almost didn't want to eat them. ALMOST :)

 This pictures so the colors much better :)
I divided the batter into 6 bowls and dyed each bowl a different color. Then I layered the batter into the cupcake liners according to the order I wanted. In this case I started with purple, then blue, green, yellow, orange, and finally red.

As you can see the colors aren't perfectly level. The oven causes a convention and mixes the colors as the cupcakes bake. Either way they come out looking cool when you bite into them!!

Pina Colada cupcakes!

For my mom's 60th birthday, I made her pina colada cupcakes! She loves pina colada and this recipe from Wilton is fantastic!

My sister and I surprised my mom by flying in my grandmother, one of her sisters, and my cousin Kate. She was so happy to have her family with her for her big 6-0 :)

Winter themed cupcakes!

My sister had a internal bake sale/ competition between groups. She asked me to make something for her to sell. I found these recipes in my "What's New Cupcake?" book.

My friend Mary helped me decorate these "Snowmen" cupcakes for the bake sale.

I made these "Coconut Polar Bear" cupcakes for the bake sale too.

These just might be my favorite yet. But I'm biased by my love of coconut!!
